What started as a two-hour delay of school at John Wetten Elementary has become a full-day closure of the school on May 5 after a swath of Gladstone continued to be affected by an electrical outage.
Before 6 a.m. this morning, school staff, along with affected Gladstone residents, reported the outage to PGE. At 6:20 a.m. we announced a two-hour delay, hoping that PGE would be able to quickly resolve this issue.
Unfortunately, we needed to have the power restored by 9 a.m., otherwise it becomes too late to get our bus routes going to bring students to school, or to serve meals. When power wasn’t restored by 9 a.m., we were forced to close the school for the entire day.
As we begin Staff Appreciation Week, we would like to thank our amazing facilities and culinary staff at JWE for their quick response to this situation. We do recognize the impact of this outage on working families, and apologize for the inconvenience.
