As our new girls head basketball coach, Pat Vialva has quickly been welcomed into the Gladiator family.

Vialva hit the ground running as Gladstone High School’s newest coach, attending a recent freshmen signing event for current eighth graders at Kraxberger Middle School. Students have already found Vialva to be personable, kind and approachable.

Students know that they can expect discipline while playing basketball with Vialva in equal measure with his kindness. He served for eight years in the active reserve for the U.S. Marine Corps.

“Gladstone players will become winners as soon as they step out on the court and give their best to this wonderful high school,” Vialva said. “I’m already enjoying meeting all of these amazing girls at GHS and Kraxberger and thinking about how to work with them to bring out their skills even more.”

Vialva has a wealth of knowledge about basketball and has used his skill development program to enable many players to succeed at both the high school and college levels. He’s known for his commitment to holistic development of players/students, by balancing encouragement of their athletic achievement with their academic performance.

Vialva was mentored by Oregon City High School girls basketball coaches Brad Smith and Kurt Guelsdorf while Vialva helped train OCHS players who competed for recent state championships. As the founder and head coach of Northwest Legends, he shares his passion and dedication to young athletes on their way to success in college and professional sports. However, his proudest accomplishment may always remain coaching his son who was recently named MVP of the 6A state basketball champion Tualatin High School in the Oregon School Activities Association tournament, where he was also named Player of the Year.

We’re looking forward to seeing even more proud accomplishments for Gladstone girls basketball under Vialva’s leadership.
