The Nov. 3 election is right around the corner! If you have already turned in your ballot, thank you for voting. If you still have your ballot sitting on your kitchen table, then please return your ballot soon, since the future of Gladstone schools is among the important issues in this election.
The Gladstone School District estimates the proposed bond, if passed, would reduce the current bond levy rate of $4.28 per $1,000 assessed property value to $2.83 per $1,000, saving the average homeowner an estimated $438 per year. And if the measure (measure number 3-644) passes, the district would receive a one-time $10.2 million matching funds grant from the state of Oregon. If this year's bond measure is not passed, the 2006 bond sunsets without a lower replacement bond rate and no projects will be completed in Gladstone schools.
If the measure passes, we will ask community members to apply to our Bond Oversight Committee composed of citizens who will make sure every dollar raised goes to projects outlined in the Voters' Pamphlet. This oversight committee is among our commitments to transparency and fiscal responsibility.
Transparency regarding spending on the 2006 bond is available on our website. The replacement bond's oversight committee would monitor 2026 bond spending and conduct regular audits to ensure funds are used solely for voter-approved projects, and to publicly report on progress throughout construction.
