During the jazz league competition last month, congrats to our trumpets and trombones for winning the most outstanding trombone and trumpet section. Gladstone High School got second place by one point; congrats to Estacada for winning, and thank you Molalla for hosting.
Congratulations as well to the band students who competed at the Solo State Championships at Portland State University.
Qualifying for this event is a huge accomplishment in the first place (these students qualified at the district solo and ensemble contest in March), and all of these students spent many hours preparing for today’s performance. We are immensely proud of all of them!
GHS senior Gabi Cronin took the silver medal for the second year in a row in the tuba room. Retired band legend and tuba teacher Chuck Bolton commented that it was the strongest tuba room he’s seen in 50 years.
GHS junior Paul Brown competed on both the trombone and bassoon and won the state championship for the second year in a row in the bassoon room with some of the highest scores across the entire competition.
