As students finish the school year strong and we celebrate milestones at all four of our schools, we have exciting news to share about the bright future for summer school at John Wetten Elementary and Gladstone High School.
State officials recently announced that the Gladstone School District will be receiving $261,400 in a Summer Learning Grant for each of the next three summers. The program is for students second through sixth grade and will emphasize literacy and math for elementary age students and credit recovery for high school students. The Oregon Department of Education said that Gladstone’s free summer program had proven itself as an evidence-based strategy for accelerating academic growth, increasing content retention and closing opportunity gaps.
Additionally we’re excited to offer our Summer Extended Day program from June 22-Aug. 21, which is funded through fees based on family participation. Between the two programs, we are able to offer our elementary-aged children programs to improve academic achievement, strengthen student engagement and support social-emotional well-being from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on weekdays throughout the summer.
