students in courtyard

Kraxberger Middle School students are working steadily on the school's courtyard garden. Thanks to the leadership of Kraxberger teacher Audrey Delgado on this project, we are making progress clearing out the weeds and placing mulch.

Students also built new raised beds in teams who have filled them with soil and compost. Our new beds will be growing sunflowers all summer long, with sunflower varieties chosen to last long enough to bring joy to students when they return in the fall.

On the last day of school, Kraxberger students worked with staff and community volunteers to beautify, improve and prepare our school for the 2026-27 school year. These tasks included cleaning out fridges with cafeteria staff, tidying our courtyards, dusting out the shelves in the library and student store, and helping haul trash and supplies with custodian Joel Libron.

Asking our students to be a part of school improvement efforts is important. We offered students an opportunity to build pride in our space, work collaboratively with their peers and help others. In anticipation of the next school year, we want to advance our students' belonging to and ownership of Kraxberger, its halls and its learning spaces.
