Eccles Elementary School Principal Kelly Rogers is excited to be John Wetten Elementary’s assistant principal in the coming school year.
Rogers applied for the job in Gladstone because he wanted to work collaboratively with staff and community to put student success first through a focus on student outcomes, development of relational capacity and strengthening community engagement. He was selected by Gladstone’s hiring committee because of his experience in English Language Development program supervision, special education, tiered instruction and responses, data literacy, and positive behavioral interventions and supports.

“I am excited to serve the Gladstone community and partner with the incredible staff at John Wetten. As a native Portlander, I know the pride and value the Gladstone community places on its schools and children,” he said.

Prior to his current position in the Canby School District, Rogers worked as an assistant principal for three school years in West Linn’s Rosemont Ridge Middle School. He began his career from 2000-2010, teaching second and third grade at West Linn’s Stafford Primary School. His classroom experience continued from 2010-2019 as a teacher and instructional coordinator at Bolton Primary School, where he taught fourth and fifth grade, and along with other school wide responsibilities, he supervised the Chinese World Language Program and supported curriculum adoptions.

“Gladstone’s mission and equity stance speak to my belief in all students. JWE’s close knit community provides a unique opportunity for partnership and collective efforts to ensure our students continue to thrive,” he said.

Rogers earned his bachelor’s degree from Portland State University and went on to receive a master’s degree in teaching from Lewis and Clark College. He is a devoted father of four sons, and husband to his wife, Shiloh.

“Family is very important to me and my goal is to support the families of John Wetten Elementary,” he said
