Kraxberger Middle School serves approximately 500 students in grades six through eight. Kraxberger Middle School strives to bring a wide variety of opportunities for the students, while at the same time, providing an enriching curriculum. In addition to the required classes of Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science/Health, and Physical Education the students have opportunities to explore electives such as Art, Music, Band, Technology, Drama and Spanish during their middle school years.
Sixth Grade students at Kraxberger spend their morning with a Homeroom teacher focusing on Language Arts and Social Studies. In the afternoon sixth grade students change teachers for Mathematics and Science/Health, prior to going to either their Elective or Physical Education class. Seventh and Eighth grade students follow a more “traditional” middle school schedule with either a Core (7th grade) or Block (8th grade) Language Arts/Social Studies class, with one teacher, then changing teachers for Science/Health, Mathematics, Physical Education and Electives. All seventh and eighth grade students are taught Pre-Algebra and Algebra respectively. Eighth grade students have the opportunity to gain high school credit in both Mathematics and Spanish if they choose.
Kraxberger Middle School supports those students who are struggling through a variety of classes, some of which are provided through our special education department. In addition, students that need targeted intervention have the ability to drop an elective class for a short period of time in order to receive supplemental instruction in an academic area. For students needing a broader range of support, the staff may recommend a “Success” class as replacement for an elective class. Kraxberger Middle School also provides opportunities for students to participate in after-school intramurals, including volleyball and basketball.
Kraxberger Middle School endeavors to provide an environment where students are both supported and challenged as they make the transition into adolescence. Given our understanding of the particular challenges of the middle school years, our staff explicitly teaches our behavior expectations (through the Positive Behavior Support program) of being: Safe, Respectful and Responsible. Students are given instruction in how these three principles give them a solid foundation in becoming a good citizen of Kraxberger and Gladstone.
Kraxberger Middle School recognizes the importance of family involvement at this crucial stage in a child’s life. We welcome family’s participation in a variety of ways – a visit to the school, volunteering, or participating on a committee. Please feel free to call and arrange a visit to the school at any time – we look forward to seeing you here! |
