Letter from the Principal

Greetings John Wetten Families,

It is a pleasure to be a part of your child's life each day as they embark on their educational journey. Honestly, nothing is better than to sit with a child that is engaged in learning. State testing in reading and math for our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders is upon us. Students are taking on-line tests to show us what their level of learning is. We value this information as it continues to inform us as to how we can best support your child.

You can support you children in this learning journey by practicing the skills they have learned at home. You can support your learners by reading to and with your child everyday. Making reading for pleasure a priority in your home can make a big difference in how they perform at school and how they feel about themselves as learners.

Your child's attendance is very important to us. Please be sure that your child is a school every day on time. We begin instruction sharply at 8:05. Many of our students begin their day with small reading groups or vital math instruction. If your child comes in just 10 minutes late, they not only feel rushed to get settled for the day, but have often missed out on important instruction. If your child will be absent, please be sure to call the office to let us know. If your child must attend an appointment during the school day, please know that we would love for you to bring your child back to school if at all possible. Every minute counts.

For students and staff, February will be filled with enriching activities, music and assemblies. Our character trait for the month will be compassion. We will be acknowledging and rewarding students who are exemplifying this trait. We also will continue to celebrate all students who are being safe, respectful and responsible.
